Shirley Iris CHAFFINS

1924 - 2021

Shirley I. Chaffins (Campbell) entered into rest on November 27, 2021, in Spokane, WA at Rockwood at Whitworth Memory Care with her loving husband of 76 years, Jim by her side.

  Shirley was born in Sandpoint, ID on August 10, 1924, to Arbie and Elizabeth Campbell. She had one sister, Lois Doyle, who preceded her in death. She attended schools in both Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry. In 1942, Shirley graduated from Sandpoint High School. She acquired many lifelong friends throughout her school years.

  On April 19, 1945, she married the love of her life, Jim Chaffins, in Monterey, CA upon his discharge from the US Army. Shirley worked for Army Engineers during WWII, and later was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. She and Jim lived in Coeur d' Alene and moved to Spokane in 1949. Shirley loved music and dancing. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for several years where she made many lifelong friendships. She was a woman of strong faith in God and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Shirley was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, attending both St. Paul Lutheran and in recent years, All Saints Lutheran in Spokane.

  Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very happy just being a central figure in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a star in their eyes and that's all that mattered to her. She is survived by her husband Jim, her two children, Ronda Chaffins Tolan (Dave) and Todd Chaffins (Karen); five grandchildren, Paula Bradley Goodsell (Larry), Patrick Bradley (Carol), Nicole Chaffins Moore (Ed), Erik Chaffins (Jenelle), and Ryan Chaffins (Sargie); and eight great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zach and Emma Goodsell, Addison and Bennett Chaffins, Noah and Mavryk Chaffins and Iris and Finn Moore.

  A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to All Saints Lutheran Church in Spokane or Hospice of Spokane.
