Stephen BACKMAN Obituary

BACKMAN, Stephen Frank Let's celebrate the life of Stephen Frank Backman, age 62, who passed away on December 17, 2012 at his home in Colbert, Washington. He was born in Upland, California on August 8th, 1950 to William Frank and Barbara Lee Backman. Steve came to Spokane at two years of age. He graduated from Ferris Highs School in 1968. He received his BA from the University of Washington. He went on to complete Law School at Gonzaga University in 1976. Steve practiced law in Spokane for 35 years. For over 30 year he was a partner with Joe Blumel and in 2007 he went to work at Davidson Backman Medeiros. Steve was always up for a challenge and loved his work. Steve was a well-rounded man. He made friends wherever he went. In his early years he was an avid skier and race team member. Continuing to ski throughout his life. He was a member of the golf team in high school and continued that passion throughout the years. He was a longtime member at Spokane Country Club. Steve was a faithful fitness member of the "Brute Squad" at North Park Racquet Club for almost 30 years. He ran Bloomsday for 25 consecutive years. In any of these settings there was always a laugh to be had, friendships to be cultivated, and life to enjoy. Steve is survived by wife Kandice Backman of Colbert, WA, daughter Brooke Backman of NYC, son Brian Backman of NYC, step- sons Landon Crecelius and wife Sarah, of Spokane, WA, Parc Crecelius of Memphis, TN, Kohl Crecelius and wife Amy of Newport Beach, CA and stepdaughter Makrai Crecelius of Portland, OR. William Backman father, Barbara Backman mother, Linda Backman sister and Maureen Backman first wife preceded Steve in death. A memorial celebration will be held at Spokane Country Club 2010 West Waikiki Rd., December 26th at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

I knew Steve from boyhood, and will always remember him as a fun, bright, and totally delightful guy to be around. I know he faced some health challenges head on, but his spirit never wavered. Thoughts and prayers to his family.
