Thomas CARROLL Obituary

Thomas Andrew Carroll, a lifetime resident of Spokane, Washington passed away February 9, 2024, of heart complications. Tom was born on May 13, 1958, at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was the fourth child of Robert M. and Gene L. Carroll. He attended St. Peter Grade School and Ferris High School where he graduated in 1976. Tom earned his AA Degree from Spokane Falls Community College, BA from Gonzaga University and MSW in Social Work from Eastern Washington University. After college, Tom went to work for Catholic Charities and remained there his entire career. He served as Director of Senior Services. The involvement with this work gave Tom the ability to serve older residents by providing assistance in various areas of need to allow them to remain in their homes. Tom felt incredibly blessed by the many fine people he worked with and encountered at Catholic Charities.

Tom was a long-time member of Toastmasters and took pride in developing better speaking skills. He was a coin collector and in his younger years enjoyed playing recreational hockey, bicycling, and cross-country skiing. In his later years, he made frequent visits to the area casinos with his long-time friend, Ginger and was a regular at family gatherings. Tom never married but leaves an extended family. Brothers, Bob (Carol) Carroll of Chattaroy, WA; Jim (Jennifer) Carroll of Tucson, AZ; Sisters, Ann (Pete) Briggs and Mary Carroll, both of Spokane, WA; numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was a gentle soul who will be missed by his family and fellow Catholic Charity partners.

A funeral service will be held for Tom at Hennessey Funeral Home on Division, Monday, February 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow.

I had the pleasure of working with Tom, since I work with the statewide Volunteer Chore Services contract. We were all saddened to hear of his passing. We will be having our annual gathering soon and he will be missed there. He gave so many years to service to his community and he was a great example to us all.

Saddened to hear of Tom's passing. I will never forget how much fun it was to be an occasional part of the group of neighborhood guys that played pick-up hockey with Tom's at his family's asphalt court. My condolences to his siblings.

I will miss having lunch with Tom and "Mom". It was a time to catch up on what was going on in the Dieter and Carroll families.

Tom and I went to St. Peter’s together and Ferris High School. He was so friendly and sweet and funny. Last time I saw Tom was at my mom’s funeral at St. Peters. Our families have known each for years. I was so touched he came and we had a nice visit. Rest in peace Tom.

Tom was always so positive and had the best sense of humor. His laughter was infectious. He enjoyed whatever he was doing. He was so good with our mom and she loved his visits and going out for breakfast together. We loved our cousin, Tom, and big hugs and prayers to his family and friends. Love, Terri & Tim Crowley
