News Death Notice

TRENT, Alice May Age 90 of Springfield passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. She was born on May 28, 1924 to the late Robert and Lillie (Upton) Mabry in White Lake, Wisconsin. In addition to her parents, Alice is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Edward Trent; her daughter, Lana Freeze; a brother, Edward Mabry as well as her sister, Myrtle Conn. She leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Lora May; grandchildren: Dr. Joy (Scott) Welcker, Karie (Remo) Picciano, Jenny (Kelly) Freeze-Sells and special grandson Kim Rice; 6 great-grandchildren and special niece, Betty Holmes. Alice was a Rosie the Riveter during the war, where she met and married the love of her life, Edward. Together they opened the first group home for autistic boys in 1979; and traveled to 17 national conventions for autism awareness. She and Edward dedicated their lives to raising their autistic grandson Kim who was truly and deeply loved. Dustin Hoffman even reached out to Alice in a letter to seek her knowledge when doing the film Rain Man. She was genuinely devoted to her faith as well, being a member of Clifton Ave. Church of God, where she taught Sunday School for 16 years. Alice was like a second mother to me. She was one of the strongest women I have ever known. She had a warm, cute laugh. Loved the color pink. I will always love her and will forever cherish her memory.
