Charles Starkey Obituary


News Death Notice

STARKEY, Charles Cecil 85, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in the St. John's Care Center. He was born on November 3, 1925, in Circleville, Ohio, the son of Cecil and Frances (DeBolt) Starkey. He graduated from Springfield High School, class of 1943, and went on to serve our country in the United States Navy during World War II, South Pacific Theatre. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Corrine (Von Huben) Starkey of Springfield. Cecil worked for Crowell Collier where he met his longtime friend, Louis Halk. He later retired from Dayton Press and Construction as an electrician. He was a member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Anthony Lodge #455 F.&A.M., and S'Allemonde Square Dance Club. Cecil was an avid bowler and recently liked to watch the senior bowlers at Northridge Bowling Lanes. Survivors also include, two daughters: Linda (Dick) Johnson, Christa McGregor (Scott Silver), three grandchildren: Amy (Todd) Romes, Beth Johnson (Greg Rick), and Emily Kersch; two great grandchildren: Luke and Grace; sister-in- and brother-in-law, Betty and Carl Roller, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and brother-in-law, Bill Bierley, and Steve Kersch. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Debbie, and grandson, Elliot Kersch. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2011 from 2-5 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A memorial celebration of his life and military service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 712 N. Fountain Blvd., Springfield. Burial of his urn will be held at the convenience of the family in Ferncliff Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to Community Mercy Hospice and Dr. Mark Roberto for their kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church 712 N. Fountain Blvd., Springfield, OH 45503, or Community Mercy Hospice, 444 West Harding Blvd., Springfield, OH 45504. You may express condolences at www.littletonandrue.com
