Cody Schliep Obituary
News Death Notice
SCHLIEP, Cody A. 12, of Springfield died at 5:08 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2008. in Children's Medical Center, Dayton, OH. He was born in Springfield on February 23, 1996 the son of Thomas J. Schliep Jr. of Springfield and Jennifer (Gorton) Schliep of Springfield. He was a seventh grade student at Roosevelt Middle School. Cody loved to play baseball, playing on several teams at NAAA Park on Shrine Rd. He also enjoyed watching and helping his dad who coached other teams at the park. Survivors in addition to his parents include a brother, Caleb Z. Schliep; sister, Kimberly L. Schliep; paternal grandparents, Tom and Vera Schliep; maternal grandfather, Richard Gorton, all of Springfield; paternal great grandmother, Wilma Blankenship, South Charleston, OH; maternal great grandparents, Elmer and Betty Pennington, Springfield; several aunts and uncles including, Debra and Duke Rutherford, Joyce and Chad Fisher, Richard and Frances Gorton all of Springfield and Kim and Jim Jenkins, Marysville, OH and several cousins. Special friends including Tammy Everhart, Alysha Everhart and Tori Everhart all of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Linda Gorton in 2006 and by great grandparents, John Blankenship, Robert Schliep and Dorothy Whaley. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Conroy Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Thompson officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorial donations may be made to NAAA Park, c/o Duke Rutherford, 3810 Randee Lane, Springfield, OH 45502.

To all of Cody's family,
I am saddened to hear of the loss of this young one. I did not know him, but I do know some of his family. My family mourns with you at this hard time. Although words cannot take your pain away, let the good memories fill your heart every day. Adrain and Caleb Bustos are my boys and they are pained to hear of this loss of your dear Cody. There will be a time when you can see him again. We will continue to pray for all of your family, and we are sorry from the bottom of our hearts.

Dear codys family,
Im so sad cody had to go this soon. I went to school with him and there was never a morning thats went by without him standing with me and my friends watching as the kids got dropped off. The two things i remember most is sense of humor and him always being sarcastic with his teachers. He was such a good student and he will be missed so! My prayers are with you.

I am so sorry for the loss of Cody. I did not realize that one of my favorite students was Cody's mom. I feel for Tom and Vera, too, since I am now a grandfather and know what losing my own dear granddaughters would be like. My sympathy to all of you.

I am so sorry for the loss of such a great little boy. He has dealt with things at such a young age that most adults never have to experience. I will always remember him playing video games and pokemon cards. He'll always be the fun loving child I knew. Caleb and Kimmie has lost their older brother and its going to be so hard for them to understand why Cody isn't coming back home, I hope that they will soon understand that Cody is in a better place watching over them.

I never actually actually had the chance to meet Cody and if I did, he would have just been a newborn baby...as my grandparents lived across the street from his grandparents on Gerald Drive...My heart goes out to this family...As a mother myself I can't imagine the loss of a child and I wish there was something that I could say or do to make your pain easier but please know that I have been and will continue to pray for your family over the next few months, as I know they will be the most trying for you.

Boy I miss you so much. It seems like yesterday you were bugging the crap out of me. But I miss it. I miss you running around upstairs and being so mad because I just wanted to sleep. And you going threw the house saying the silliest little things that made me go "huh". Every day I wake up thinking I will walk upstairs and you will be standing there in the fridge looking for something to eat. Its going to be so different without you. There isn't a day that has gone by that i wish I would hold you in my arms. I remember when you use to say you were going to beat up all the boys I talked to because "I was your girlfriend". I will never ever forget you. I keep hearing everyone talk about it and I just think.. "no way, hes not gone..". But I know that you are with your grandmother right now and looking over us. I just wish that things didn't have to end like this. I'm so sorry for everything.. and you will always have a place in my heart.
