David DERN Obituary


News Death Notice

DERN, David W. born October 14, 1932, died at his home in Springfield, Ohio on February 13, 2014 at the age of 81. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Dern was a proud graduate and avid fan of The Ohio State University. After graduating, he served in the United States Army before taking residence in Springfield, OH. A resident since 1957, Mr. Dern was a proud and active member of the Springfield community. He was a Partner at Sander, Shifman, and Brannick, a Springfield-based public accounting firm, before becoming a Principal at Clark, Schaefer, and Hackett. A strong advocate for community service, he held leadership and board membership roles in the community, including Jaycees, Kiwanis, Northwood Hills Country Club, The Polo Club, the Springfield North High School Boosters and Band Boosters, and as a member of the Friends of the Clark County Public Library. Dave is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean; Jack (brother) and Ruth Dern of Springfield; David Dern (son) of Missouri City, TX; Dennis (son) and Cathy Dern of South Lebanon; Steve (son) and Melissa Dern of Lebanon; and six grandchildren: Kevin, Eric, Brian (Mariah), Haley, Ryan, and Sydney. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 5-8:00 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A celebration of his life and career will be on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the High Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Allen officiating. Private burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial contributions be made in the name of David W. Dern to either the Kiwanis Foundation - Scholarship Fund or the Clark County Public Library. You may express condolences at www.littletonandrue.com
