News Death Notice
McCALL, Donald E. 89, of Springfield, passed away Thursday morning, April 30, 2015 at the Springfield Masonic Community. He was born in Champaign County on May 27, 1925, the son of the late Charles E. and Flossie (Adkins) McCall. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic during WWII and continued his Navy career for 20 years serving as a hurricane hunter and in-flight engineer. Following his Navy service, Don worked as an aircraft mechanic for United Airlines, Springfield Municipal Airport and Grimes Air Field. He was a member of Maiden Lane Church of God. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Jean (Don) Swabey of Springfield; grandson, Jeffrey David Marraccini of Troy, Michigan; a brother, Harley (Trudy) McCall of Urbana; and nieces and nephews too numerous to count. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy M. "Dottie" McCall in 2012; a sister, Myrtle Smith; and five brothers, Ray McCall, Rev. Earl McCall, Leroy McCall, Pete Hoeffer, and Carlous McCall. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Don's funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Maiden Lane Church of God with Pastor Mark Martin officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in Don's name may be made to the Maiden Lane Church of God Youth Fund, 1201 Maiden Lane, Springfield, OH 45504. Dear Donna and family,
Rita and I would like to extend our sincere sympathy in the "Home going" of Uncle Don. He was always full of life and laughter,and loved telling jokes. We always knew he loved the Lord and today he gets to see Him. We will truly miss him. Your cousin, Jay and Rita McCall

I am very sorry to hear about Don's passing. He was a kind and a true gentlemen. I learned a lot from him while working for him at Grimes Field in Urbana.

I will dearly miss my Great Uncle Don. I'm so happy that my grandpa Ray and his brother are reunited, and in a much better place. They both left such wonderful, Godly legacies for their families. I look forward to seeing them both in Heaven one day!! Their "Life Letters" have impacted my life in so many ways.....I could never thank them enough for their faithfulness to God and their families!!
