SAMUELSON, Donald Anders "D.A." 88, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2006 in the Eaglewood Care Center. He was born on November 11, 1917 in Springfield the son of Anders G. and Cora (Fink) Samuelson. Don is survived by his Gin Rummy partner and loving wife of 62 years, Magdalen (Schedtler) Samuelson. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Cynthia (Johnson) Samuelson of Urbana; and daughter Jane Durkott of Urbana, brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Barbara Samuelson of Hanover, New Hampshire; his sister, Louise Samuelson Bauer of Urbana, and six grandchildren, Jennifer Durkott, Maggi, Donald Anders II, Elizabeth, Chip, and Amelia Samuelson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul Samuelson. He graduated from Springfield High School class of 1935 and went on to graduate from Purdue University in 1940 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Samuelson was a certified and licensed Professional Engineer for 60 years. His passing was appropriate over this Memorial Day weekend; D.A. served our country in the United States Navy during World War II where he was a Lieutenant in the Seabees. Following his military service Don went to work for the family business, A.G. Samuelson Company where he became president in 1946 and retired in 2005. Don was a builder in the central Ohio area and he completed projects which included the construction of the Ohio Edison Mad River Power Plant, the News-Sun Building, the International Harvester Lagonda Plant, Tech II facilities, and Johnson Welded Products in Urbana. He was involved in many community organizations, boards, and clubs including: Boy Scouts of America, Junior Achievement, Ferncliff Cemetery, M & M Savings and Loan, United Way, Van Dyke Club, Springfield Rotary Club, Springfield City Schools Board of Education, and the Springfield Country Club. He was also a member the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church for 50 years and most recently was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. His passion and hobby was fishing even up until two weeks ago when he caught 13 trout! He will be missed by his great fishing buddies, Bob Kercher, Richard Kuss, Richard Link, Harry Egger, and Paul Recknagel. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 from 4-8 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 am in the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1801 St. Paris Pike, with Reverend Dan Powell officiating. Burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Junior Achievement, 1 S. Limestone St., Springfield, 45501 or the Springfield Rotary Club, 1324 Richmoor Rd., Springfield, Ohio 45503.
