Gary LOUGH Obituary

News Death Notice

LOUGH, Gary R. 77, of Springfield, died October 16, 2015 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born May 11, 1938 in Springfield, OH to Vernon Preston and Minnie (Graves) Lough. Gary retired from International Harvester Co. after 42 years of service. He was a member of Elks Lodge #51. Gary was a sports fan and a great family supporter. He loved going to his grandkids' games and each grandchild has his or her story about something unique said or done during the event. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and OSU football. But his two biggest passions were softball and training race horses. The Pabst softball team he was on had one national title in 1964 with a second and third in the following years. Gary made first team all-tournament in both '64 and '65 nationals. He played baseball at Springfield high where his claim to fame was getting a hit off Claude Osteen, former LA Dodger, in a regional contest. His attention turned to race horses later in life. From Belle Sampson to Tach Hanover he spent many years racing and training them. He raced in stake races in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, New York and Ohio, winning a few along the way. Throughout all his accomplishments, his family remained most important to him. Survivors include his wife of 58, years, Nancy K. (Aitken); four sons, G. Scott (Chris) Lough, Barry Lough, Garth Lough and Chad Lough; nine grandchildren, Trent, Amber, Cody Wesley, Daryl, Mallory, Laci, Rhett and Grant; a brother, James (Linda) Lough; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his sisters, Gwen, Betty, Marge, Clarice and Janet; and brothers, Warren and Darrel. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Mark Hackworth officiating.

So Sorry to read of Gary's passing. We go back a long ways and we had many "lively" discussions. I liked Gary very much and am also sorry that I had not seen him in recent years. Living now in Mobile, Alabama, I just happened to see his obit when I went online yesterday. God be with you, Nancy, in this time of loss.

It was a true pleasure working with Gary as well as taking him pheasant hunting. Memories of the good times at my home either barbequing or gathering vegetables from the garden shall forever remain fond memories that Gary and I, together, had shared.

Gary was a good man and he was our friend !

Nancy, Vicki and I send you our love.

Sadly, we read our friends obits, and fondly remember their impact upon our own lives. Gary was one of those people, unique, and dedicated to Winning, at all he endevored in life. Our condolences and Prayers are extended to his wonderful Family. Happy to have known Gary, and sharing the Athletic competition he so dearly enjoyed.

My heart goes out to you Nancy. Have been and will continue to pray for you. The most I remember about Gary is his love for the grandkids. From the time he first got to hold them he absolutely loved to be with and do special things for them. May the God of peace comfort and keep you through this difficult time.
