News Death Notice
MITCHELL, George Edward 84, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born June 25, 1930 in Chillicothe, Ohio, the son of Ellsworth and Elizabeth Violet (Parker) Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was formerly employed at Spring Print Paper Products and was a member of the Eagles and the V. F. W. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. Survivors include seven children; Susan (John) Wagner, Urbana, Patricia Hicks, George Mitchell Jr., Marilyn (Dale) Griffitts, Joyce (Doug) Hoagland, Robert Mitchell and Eugene Mitchell all of Springfield, 29 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; Shirley Mitchell in November 2012, a daughter; Maxine Standley, sisters; Betty Cornell, Virginia Rapp, Hazel Kellogg and Mary Louise Mitchell, brothers; Ed Mitchell, Bill Mitchell and Bob Mitchell and his parents. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM until 8:00PM Thursday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Bill Blain officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery.

I remember George so well. I worked for UPS and was at Springprint everyday for years. You could always hear his voice on that tow motor coming around the corner. He helped me load thousands of packages with a smile on his face. I ran into him a few years ago at Walmart. I heard a voice that sounded so familiar, and walked around the corner and there he was. Still looked pretty much the same as he had years before. I am sorry for your loss. He leaves me with great memories of my job and the nice people I crossed paths with.
