Hager FUGATE

1928 - 2017

FUGATE, Hager Was born in Knott County, Hindman, Kentucky on November 24, 1928, to Elic and Lillie (Hudson) Fugate. He attended Kentucky Public Schools, graduating from Wayne High School. On September 30, 1950, in Liberty, Indiana, he married Blanche Abrams, the love of his life and best friend. They enjoyed over 63 wonderful years of marriage. Hager was an active member of BridgeWater Church for over 62 years serving in many capacities, including Church Treasurer, Board of Trustees, Building Committee, Advisory Council, Usher, Sunday School teacher, Capitol Funds campaign chairman, Youth Counselor, Board of Elders, and Sunday morning greeter. He loved his church family and loved spending time with family and friends. He and Blanche loved to travel, spending winters in Florida for many years. He was employed by Champion International in many capacities: General Supervisor in Industrial and Community Relations, Employee Benefits/Human Resources, and Worker's Compensation. He was active in local and state organizations as well. He served on the Board of Family Services, as Chairman of the Senior Citizen's Board, Chairman of in-house United Way Campaigns and the Fort Hamilton Hospital Board of Trustees. His professional affiliations included serving as past President of SWOSIA, Southwest Ohio Self Insured Association Board, OSIA, Ohio Self Insured Board of Managers, serving Self Insured Employers of Ohio. In 1989, he was appointed as a Commissioner to The Industrial Commission of Ohio in Columbus, Ohio, from which he retired in 1992. Hager was known for his sense of humor, his story-telling, and his positive attitude toward life. He is survived by his immediate family sisters-in-law June Fugate and Thelma Setser, nieces Becky (Eric) Glazier, Ren? Gabbard, Anna Sue Taylor, Phyllis (Gene) Smith, Karen Fugate, Arista Wogenstahl, Pamela (Bob) Frost, Brenda (Kenny) Davidson, Gerri (Bill) Stout, Dianne (George) Browning; nephews, Michael Fugate and Larry (Ruby) Setser and many more family members and friends who will mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche; his parents, a brother, Howard; a sister, Berta Lee (Belve) Gabbard, and nephews, Richard Merle (Dicky) Fugate, and David (Carrie) Setser. The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Harry Davin, Dr. George S. George and his colleagues at Ohio Heart and Vascular, Dr. Ritche Chiu and his colleagues, West Chester Hospital, The Christ Hospital, and Kettering Fort Hamilton Hospital.
