Helen J. Spears

Helen J. Spears, 94, of Lexington passed away on March 24th, 2026. She was born in Hamilton, OH, on April 21st, 1931, to the late Isia Mae Spears Dalton and Edward W. Dalton.

She was employed at the University of Kentucky for over 30 years before retiring. Helen cherished time spent with her grandchildren and was incredibly proud of each of them. She never missed an opportunity to attend a game, graduation, or any event they were part of. Helen was a regular at the Lexington Senior Center, where she enjoyed spending time with friends and playing bingo. She was a kind, loving Christian woman and a true role model for her family.

She is survived by her children, Robert Spears (Diana) and Darrell Spears (Erika); grandchildren, Robbie Spears, Hunter Ray Spears (Lyndsey), Claire Spears, and Spencer Hall; and great-grandchildren, Taegan Spears and Stella Rae Spears.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Ray Spears; children, Regeania Jump, and Edward Spears; granddaughter, Ashlee Spears; and siblings, Chester Lee Dalton, Vernon Dalton, Clarence Dalton, and Lawrence Dalton.

Funeral services will be private with burial at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.
