News Death Notice

HARTER, Jr., John F. 69, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016. He was born on November 18, 1946, the son of the late John F. Harter Sr. and Janet (Newell) Harter Jackson. John is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Cynthia (Tittle) Harter; daughters and sons-in-law, Nicki and Don Castle and Courtney and Tony Ehlinger; granddaughter, Abby Castle "His Angel", step-grandchildren, Erik (Katie) Castle, Brittany Bowsher, Gage Ehlinger and Jaydon Ehlinger; brother, David of Tennessee; sister, Angela of Missouri; special niece, Kenzi Brown (James Ervin); and numerous other family members. He is preceded in death by an infant son, John Ryan; and brother, Phillip. John graduated from North High School in 1965 and began working in 1970 at the Clark County Sherriff's office where he retired as a Sergeant after 25 years of service. He then went on to work in customer service at the Springfield News Sun for several years. John loved his family dearly and his legacy will continue to live on through them. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 11a.m.-2p.m. at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Fellowship Hall, 1801 St. Paris Pk. Springfield, OH 45504. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. John's family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Springfield Regional Medical Center in the ICU for their exceptional love and care during their time of need. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, 3 International Drive, Suite 200, Rye Brook, NY 10573. Uncle JJ would always make me laugh. He would chase me and scare me. He would always say if you don't behave I am gonna let the dog get you! He cheered me on in football too. I played my hardest when he was sick last time to win just for him. I love you!! Your 10 year cousin.
