ERWIN, Martha Neoma FROCK Mart age 91y2m26d, passed away at 2PM., Sat., 7 Nov 2009, at Villa Springfield. Martha was born 12 Aug 1918, Springfield, Clark Co., OH., daughter of the late Samuel Nathan & Cora GERON Frock. She married 8 Sep 1937 Vanceburg, KY to James Robert Erwin, who died 20 Mar 1993 (son of Clarence Clifford & Celia Emma ANDERSON Erwin). The couple were married 55y6m12d. She is survived by five children: Marjorie Ann ERWIN Dement Morris of Frankfort, OH; James Nathan (Rita ROWLAND) Erwin of Jamestown, OH; Jerry Wallace (Claudia Roberta WISEMAN) Erwin of Cedarville, Judy ERWIN Prether Hubbard Benning Cornick & Jack Robert Erwin, Sr. both of Springfield; sisters & brother-in-law: Edna & Wallace Smith of Springfield, Inez Shultz of Yellow Springs, Dorothy Lohnes & Frieda George both of Springfield; Marjories children: Cheryl L. DEMENT (Timothy) Rutherford, Chris A. Dement, Dennis L. Dement & Robert D. (Kim McCORKLE) Dement; James child: Jayne A. Erwin & James Step-children: Matthew A. (Malissa DAVIS Roush) Leeds & Timothy D. (Christina MINIER) Leeds; Jerrys children: Philip R. (Kristine SHARRETT) Erwin, Robert W. (Emily CURRALL) Erwin & Mark D. (Nicole L. FLETCHER) Erwin; Judys children: Talitha E. PRETHER (Gerald) Greene & Celia M. Maria PRETHER; and Jacks children: Jack R. Erwin, Jr., Jason M. (Krisa MANNING) Erwin, Jacob J. Erwin, Jenna M. Erwin, Jerrica E. Erwin & James W. Erwin; 23 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Step-Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & all her neighbors & friends at Northpoint Senior Apartments on Middle-Urbana Road. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Della Driscoll & Samuel J. Frock; brothers-in-law, Ralph Driscoll, Clarence Gus Lohnes & Dale George; sister-in-law, Marylou SHARPE Frock; Ex-brother-in- law, John D. Shultz; Ex-sons-in- law, Harley D. Dement & Steven C. Hubbard; her husbands siblings & spouses: Omer M. (Mildred DAVIS) Erwin, Helen A. (Garth) Lightfoot, William H. (Lois DEMENT) Erwin, & Mildred L. (Raymond) Spahr; nephew: John Thomas Tom Shultz & her life-long friend, Medrith L. Meddie MILLER. As a young girl of seven she had scarlet fever and her father bought her a piano which she learned to play by ear. She played in her fathers band (Sam Frocks 50-50 Dance Band) all over Clark, Champaign, Greene & Ross Counties. She also played the banjo & harmonica. Martha played baseball in the 1930s for the Donnelsville Cardinals coached by her dad. Martha was a homemaker most of her life, worked at Ohio Thermometer & McDormans in Xenia, OH, The Harvard & Metropolitan in Springfield, OH as a Seamstress/Tailor. She was an active Band Mother when her children attended Cedarville High School. She made cheerleading uniforms, altered band uniforms & baked a lot of pies & cakes to raise money for the band. Martha also had many fond memories of Belle & the late Cecil Bennington, Phyllis & the late Ernest Collins & the late Lamar & Dorothy Reed. Funeral service will be at Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home, 838 E. High St., Springfield, OH on Mon., 16 Nov 2009 at 2:30 PM., with viewing 1 hour prior to the service officiated by Pastor Wendell E. Hakala of Rockway Lutheran Church. Martha will be entombed beside her husband at Rose Hill Mausoleum, Springfield, OH. In lieu of flowers donations, in Marthas name, may be made to: Cedarville High School Marching Band, P. O. Box 45, Cedarville, OH 45314 and/or Springfield High School Marching Band, 701 E. Home Rd., Springfield, OH 45503. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to www.richardsraffanddunbar.com
