Paul Nickell Obituary

News Death Notice

NICKELL, Paul exchanged his earth suit for his heavenly body @ 4:30 a.m. Monday, October 11, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He fought a good fight, he kept the faith; now he has finished the race. The Peace of God filled the home as he reached out his hand to take hold of Jesus' hand. The family that was blessed to have him in their lives is Julia (Rice) Nickell, his loving wife of 61 years, who truly cared for him in sickness and in health, 3 children-Phebe from FL, Steve (Sharon) from GA, and Karen (Jim) Britton from Springfield. There are also 11 grandchildren who simply adored their grandpa, "Pappy", 25 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He left a great legacy to his family, Full Gospel Tabernacle (that he pastored for 46 years), and the city of Springfield. He was born June 11, 1930 to Joshua & Emmaline Nickell in Madison County, OH. Those on the other side that he is now rejoicing with are his parents & several siblings (Buell, Lena, Becky, and Esther.). The family will receive friends from 4 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, 10/13/10 at RiverSong Church (Word of Faith Family Church), 3660 Springfield Jamestown Rd, Springfield, OH. A celebration of Paul's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, 10/14/10, at RiverSong Church with Pastor Jim Britton, Pastor Thomas Beverly, and Buck McIntosh (Paul's dearest friend). Burial will follow at Vernon Asbury cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Full Gospel Tabernacle, 4791 Brannan Dr E, Springfield, OH 45502 or Community Mercy Hospice. He will be greatly missed by many; but those who know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will be reunited with him again soon.

Dear Sister Nickell, On December 31, 2017 I found out that Bro. Nickell had gone home to be with the Lord. On August 14 or 15, 1979 Bro. Nickell and you came to Richmond, KY to hold a revival at my Aunt Tommie's church on Estill Ave. I appreciate you and Bro. Nickell for obeying God and coming back and holding a revival. I received a born again experience in that revival, I will be one of those jewels in Bro. Nickell and your crowns when you get to heaven. I think of both of you often, two people that God used to make a difference in my life.
Love & Prayers,
Lavonne Arvin

Dear Sister Julia,and family,
My heart is greatly sadened by the
passing of Paul Nickell. I'm deeply sorry
for your lose. He was a father to me,and
i feel like a part of me has gone with him. King David said about his son that
died;..."I shall go to him,but he shall
not return to me." Someday we shall all
go to be with the Lord, and we'll all be
together forever. I love you Sister
Nickell's and my prayers are with you
always; God bless you.

Dear Sister Nickell, Karen, Jim, Phebe, and Steve,
I am so very sorry for the loss of Brother Nickell. It was with a heavy heart that I learned the news. Even though I haven’t seen any of you in many years, it feels like yesterday that I sat in the pews worshipping with all of you and listening to Brother Nickell preach. The messages he taught, his whole-hearted dedication to God, and the kindness of his spirit—I still carry with me today. Brother Nickell used to talk about preachers who “sugar-coat” the Word, and I always think of him whenever I hear many of today’s preachers who seem to do just that. I thank God for a pastor like Brother Nickell who rooted us and grounded us in the whole Word. Sister Nickell, you are dear to my heart and very much in my thoughts and prayers.

Paul was a kind man. My dad never cared for preachers very much, but he sure liked Paul. They clicked and Dad came to accept Christ shortly before his own death. Dad was better to have known him. We all were. Our love and thoughts are with you today.

I met and attended Brother Paul's church in the year 1969 or 1970. My sisters Connie and Ree Murnahan were going to the church before I was. They were at Brother Paul's homecoming in Heaven! The last time I saw my Brother, Paul was in the late 90's after we lost my grand~daughter in a house fire. It was at K-Mart and even though it had been 20+ years he knew who I was...even remembered my name! I was so shocked to see that he had gone to Heaven...I just looked at the pictures on the computer last night. Dear, dear Sister Julie my prayers are with you and yours today! God bless you always...call me I am a good listener if you ever need to scream or whatever, ok? I lost the love of my life in 1978 so I've been there done that. I love you!!

Bro. Nickell always taught us that to be absent from the body was to be present with Christ!!! How amazing. I can still remember him preaching his heart to me as a small child to my teen years to a grown adult, making enormous impact on my life. The healing service that Sunday was awesome and something none of us will ever forget! You are all like family to me and he will be missed. I love you all and pray for God's comfort.
