News Death Notice

HURST, Richard L. was born in Champaign County, Ohio on November 29, 1934, the son of Ralph and Etta (Geron) Hurst. He died on January 5, 2014 at Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Betty A. Murray and Bill Murray, and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Hurst. Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean (Austin); a daughter, Lori (John) Livingston; a son, Jay R. Hurst and (Peggy McFarland); two grandsons, Zack Livingston and Jeb Hurst; a brother, Robert L. Hurst, Springfield, OH; a sister, JeanAnn (Hurst) Bageant, South Charleston, OH. Richard attended Urbana Local School and served in the Army 1954-1956 in the 82nd Airborne. He worked at International Harvester for 46 years. During that time, he served on the Election Committee 12 years and as Chairman for the last two years. He was a Union Steward for 402 for 6 years, was on the Safety Committee for 20 years and served as Chairman for the last 10 years prior to retiring in 1999. He loved being involved in the Union and loved playing golf, hunting and especially loved being with his two grandsons, Zack Livingston and Jeb Hurst. Richard was also a member of the Eagles, Moose and Union Club. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014 with Charles Pendleton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PAWS Animal Shelter, 1535 W. U.S. Route 36, Urbana, OH 43078. According to Richard's wishes, his body will be cremated.
