Richard Kitchen Obituary


News Death Notice

KITCHEN, Richard C. 77, of Fairborn and formerly of Springfield, died Sunday afternoon, May 2, 2010, in Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on March 12, 1933, the son of the late Murphy and Anna Mae (Jourdan) Kitchen. Dick enlisted the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served on the U.S.S. Phillipine Sea during the Korean War unitl his honorable discharge in 1955. He joined the Springfield Fire Division in 1961 and rose to the rank of Lieutenant, retiring in 1986. In his retirement, Dick greatly enjoyed fishing, especially in Hillsboro and with his sons and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Mary A. (Bertorello) Kitchen; four children and spouses, Barbara A. Jenkins of Springfield, Richard C. and Candace Kitchen of Springboro, Michael and Katherine Kitchen of Franklin, and Brenda and Robert Colton of Centerville; nine grandchildren, Jessica Conkel, Samantha Jenkins, Anthony, Emma, Warren, Ryan, and Logan Kitchen, and Kyle and Casey Colton; and a great grandson, Jordan Jenkins. Also surviving are two sisters, Jemima Plummer of Lodi, California and Helen Lowe of Portsmouth; a brother, Gary Kitchen of Portsmouth; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Dick's funeral services will begin with a Firefighters' Turnout at 4:00 p.m. followed by services officiated by Fr. Charles Lang of Mary Help of Christians Church, Fairborn. Military honors from the U.S. Navy will conclude the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Smilin' Bob Memorial Heart Attack Fund, 350 N. Fountain Ave., Springfield, Ohio 45504.
