News Death Notice

COOPER, Sylvia Irene 76, of Springfield, OH, passed peacefully from this Earth on October 7, 2013. Sylvia was born on May 1, 1937 in New Castle, Indiana to the late James Hobert and Dorsie Lillian (Brown) Simerly. She married Dr. Raymond Nelson Cooper Sept 1, 1958, celebrating 55 years of marriage. She will be remembered as a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She graduated from Indiana University. She worked as a school teacher, homemaker, and assisted at her husband's medical office. Sylvia was a member and past president of the Medical Auxiliary Society and supported numerous charity organizations. She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church of New Carlisle. Each spring she worked in her gardens, planting hundreds of flowers and vegetables raised from her home greenhouse. It was not uncommon for her to read a new book every day. She was without question the champion bowler in the family, claiming several trophies as a long time league member. Sylvia will be remembered most for her traditions of celebrations, family get-togethers, holidays, parties, "pool day", making family and friends alike feel welcome and loved. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Vicki Wood of Enon. She is survived by her husband Raymond Nelson Cooper of Springfield, her five children Kristi (Scott) Betton, Tony (Tracey) Cooper, Cindy (Mike) Westfall, Torie (Amy) Cooper all of Springfield, and J.R. (Erin) Cooper of Marysville, 14 grandchildren; Kylie & Makenzie Betton; Jenelle, Reed, Devyn, Cyres Cooper, Nicole, Trevor, Madison Deam; Chance & Morgan Price, Matthew Westfall; Peyton & Piper Cooper; 2 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
