Curtis Jernigan Obituary

Curtis Jernigan, age 82, of Pensacola, FL made the journey to be with our Lord on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. He was born, one of eleven children, in Munson, FL on November 21, 1925 to Ezra and Anna Jernigan. He was a decorated World War II veteran, having served in the Sixth Marine Division, U.S.M.C. His tours of duty included Okinawa, Guam and North China. After serving his country, he pioneered the self service gasoline business in Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.
Curtis was a devout Christian, sharing the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ throughout his life to family and friends. He is remembered as a loving husband, guiding father, caring grandfather and loyal friend who loved reading the bible, fishing, and Southern Gospel music.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Anna Jernigan; siblings, Helon, Bernice, Clarence, Agnes, Ralph, Lois, Hamp, Anna Lou, and Adolph; and son, Preston Jernigan.
Curtis is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sheila Clopton Jernigan; sons, Bobby (Shamara) Jernigan; son Michael (Sharon) Castro; daughter, Jenny (Doug) Smith; daughter, Marion (Carlton) Wells; and brother Wade Jernigan and family. He was a beloved granddaddy to Mark, Becky, Daniel, Sarah, Preston II, Anthony, Patrick and Grayson.
The family will receive friends at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel from 6:00-8:00 PM, Saturday, November 8, 2008. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel with Rev. Donnie Barrow officiating. Burial will follow at Sullivan Cemetery with Marine Honors.
Pallbearers will be Preston Jernigan II, Patrick Jernigan, Grayson Jernigan, Anthony Castro, Johnny Scarborough, and Alfred Jackson.

Curtis will always be in your hearts.His little laugh and smile will stay with each and everyone for ever.Most of all is the love he had not only for his family but for his God and with knowing that he is at peace with his other family in heaven watching over everyone that was so dear to him.We will all miss him.
