James Watson Obituary

Dr. James A. Watson, age 79, ended his struggle with cancer on Saturday, March 22, 2008.

Dr. Watson was a practicing dentist in Milton for the past 52 years. He was a native of Santa Rosa County and graduated from Milton High School in 1946.
He served a stint in the U.S. Army before attending the University of Alabama, graduating with a degree in Chemistry. He attended Emory University School of Dentistry, where he earned his doctorate in 1955.
In recent years Dr. Watson enjoyed having two sons-Dr. Brett Watson and Dr. Bruce Watson, join the practice at Watson Family Dentistry in Milton.
Dr. Watson has been an active member of First Baptist Church in Milton and Gideons International, recently serving as President of the local Gideon Camp. He has been a member of the Escambia/Santa Rosa Dental Society and has served in various positions of leadership during his fifty-two years in dentistry.

Dr. Watson was preceded in death by his parents-Eugene and Jessie Watson, of Floridatown; his older sister-Alta Ragsdale, of Pensacola, FL; and his twin brother-Dr. William N. Watson, of Milton, FL.

Dr. Watson is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years-Grace Watson; daughter-Keena (Keith) Rowell, of Crestview, FL; four sons-Brett Watson, Todd (Candy) Watson, of Jacksonville, FL, Bruce (Rebecca) Watson, of Jay, and Vann (Kelly) Watson, of Pace; eleven grandchildren-Aimee Rowell, Robert Rowell, Thomas Rowell, Nicholas Watson, Anthony Watson, Brittany Urnick, Brandon Urnick, Brant Watson, Kasandra Watson, Tiffany Stephens, and Hunter Watson; and three sisters-Betty J. Renfroe, Laura D. (Elmer) Laird, and Allie B. (Don) Roberts.

Funeral services for Dr. Watson will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Milton with Dr. David Spencer officiating.

Burial will follow in Serenity Gardens with Lewis Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2008 also at First Baptist Church in Milton.

Pallbearers will be Greg Jernigan, Clayton Tolbert, Kevin Lunsford, Blackie Black, Nicholas Gandy, Max Williams, Richard Coe, Jonathan Wingate, Wayne Forbush, and Rick Hunsucker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Members of Fisher Sunday School Class and Local Gideon Camp Members.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Milton, Building Fund, 6797 Caroline Street, Milton, FL 32570; Gideons International, P.O. Box 692, Milton, FL 32572; or Covenant Hospice, 5907 Berryhill Road, Milton, FL 32570.

Dr. Watson will be missed greatly by his family and remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. His passion for Christ and healthful living will be remembered by all.
