Marian Mixson Obituary

Marian Suggs Mixson, age 70, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 27, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. She passed away at her home in Milton, Florida, surrounded by her loving children.

She was a native of the East Hill neighborhood of Pensacola and was a graduate of Pensacola High School Class of 1956. In 1958, she graduated from the University of Alabama's Dental Hygiene School and then joined Dr. James Watson in Milton as his first hygienist. She married Dr. Charles A. Mixson on November 5, 1960 and has resided in Milton for the last 48 years.

Marian was an active member of First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School for many years and serving on various church committees. She did volunteer work for the Milton High School Quarterback Club, the Booster Club of P.J.C. Aquatics Club, Gospel Projects of Milton, and served on the board of directors of Rolling Greens Country Club. She often worked beside her husband in his doctor's office, and was very dedicated to Santa Rosa Medical Center Auxiliary, logging over 30,000 volunteer hours. She was also a member of the Milton Historical Society, as well as the Shakespeare Club. Marian enjoyed traveling, antiquing, decorating, golf, tennis, walking, floundering, aquatic exercise classes, and taught skiing lessons in Bayou Texar in her younger years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard "Happy" and Tessie (Morgan) Suggs of Pensacola, her in-laws, Dwight and Katherine (Killebrew) Mixson of Milton, and her loving husband of forty-four years, Dr. Charles A. Mixson. Also preceding her in death was a nephew, Jimmy Hoffman.

Marian is survived by two daughters, one son, and five grandchildren: Melinda (Alan) Barton of Sunrise, Florida, Ashley (Col. Michael) Minihan of Seoul, South Korea, Andy Mixson of Milton, Adair, Mikey and Marley Minihan, and Stephen and Taylor Barton. She is also survived by one sister, Merle (Don) Hoffman of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and two nephews, Stephen (Kristine) Hoffman of Winter Park, Florida, and Dr. David (Jennifer) Hoffman of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Marian was buried at St. John's Cemetery, E Street, in Pensacola. Active pallbearers were Kenny Cranford, Ed Cunningham, Kyle Holley, Steve Preston, Ross Singletary, and Jim Williamson. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. A. Inclan (doctor and friend), Billy and Emily Spencer, Virginia Mitchell, Terry Meredith, Ted and Mary Peaden, Aleta Hoodless, William and Annette Carroll, and Dr. Doug Worley.

Her family would like to thank Donnie Sowell, Steve and Carol Ann Jones, Faye and Charlie Livingston, Dr. and Mrs. Ron Maddux, Charles and Carol DeCosta, Dr. and Mrs. Doug Worley, Felton and Annelle Smith, all of Milton, and Dr. and Mrs. Joe B. Ray and sons of Mobile, AL for their friendship, love and support.

Marian is dearly missed and her loving and joyous spirit lives on in the hearts and memories of her children, grandchildren, and caring friends.
