Barbara Hlavaty Obituary

Barbara "Bobbie" Hlavaty, longtime resident of Stamford, passed away on October 26, 2025. She was 93.
She was born on September 13, 1932, the daughter of William Wilson and Mary Ryan, in Newark, NJ during a short term move from CT for a job during the depression.
She attended St. John's School for K thru 8 and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1950.
She was employed at Ryan, Ryan, and Hickey as a legal secretary before starting a family, and at St. Joseph's Hospital as a business office admin for 17 years ending in 1994. She was a member of St Bridget's parish for over 60 years. She enjoyed pinochle, and the Yankees.
One phrase to describe her is that "she wanted everything to be done right, and she wanted to do the right thing".
Barbara is survived by her son John "Jack" Hlavaty, grandson Christopher Hlavaty, and granddaughter Lauren Hlavaty. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Edward Hlavaty, parents William Wilson and Mary Ryan Wilson Hewitt, and sister Margaret "Peggy" Wilson Halmeck Barrett.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours Friday, October 31, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT, 06905. A funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, November 1 at 10 a.m., at St. Bridget's Parish, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902. Interment to follow at St. John's Cemetery on Hoyt St. in Darien.

Our first meeting with "Aunt Bobbie" was when our Uncle Eddie introduced her to the whole "Hlavaty Clan" at our annual seafood cookout at Cummings Park in Stamford, CT. in the early1950's. That was the beginning of her finding a place in our hearts. We shared many precious moments with Bobbie over the next decades. One of our fondest memories was the week-long vacation Aunt Bobbie spent with us and my parents in December 1988 at the South Seas Plantation Resort in Captiva Island, Florida, south of Ft. Myers. Our touring included the Darling Natural Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel Island, The Mucky Duck, Mr. T's, the Bubble Room - where we all shared a huge dessert 5 ways!
She will always remain in our hearts.
