Charlie was a true friend to so many of us back at AISZ. He was the merry prankster. Always leading the pack having fun. We spent lots of time together on the basketball team and hanging out down at Schwelle after school playing cards and waiting for our train home. We lived close to eachother above Zug. Spent many hours hanging out in Charlie's room listening to Led Zep. What a shock that he's gone. We had so many great times together - so many fun memories. Like the time we decided to try snow camping, got so cold and wet we melted our shoes by the fire. Lost track over the years but you'll be missed bro' !

I was very saddened to hear of Charlie's passing. We had been close at AISZ, in fact he threw me a surprise going away party when I had to come back to the States my Senior year. We lost touch with each other for several years but we reconnected a couple of years ago via email, and it was great to hear from him again. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Dear family Carroll,

I was saddened by the news of Charlie’s passing. Although I was still at Bevan’s primary school at the time he was at AISZ, he was my boyhood softball hero... in my mind’s eye, I still see him down by the lake in Zug on Saturday mornings swinging a bat single-handedly and the ball flying from home plate across the park over the hedge onto Chamerstrasse.

My thoughts and best wishes to you all,

Don Kinniburgh

As one of Charlie's AISZ teachers, I was stunned and deeply saddened to hear of his passing. When I looked in the yearbook from '73, the memories came flooding back. I taught him in Math class, but I remembered him most for his cheer, his wit and his boundless energy. His ice hockey skills were amazing and I could never catch him on a ski slope!
My deepest sympathies go out to his wife, his children and his family.

We are deeply saddened to our loss of Charlie. We were all brothers and sisters growing up together in Zurich. We had many great moments together in our early years and we truely regret not having the chance to reconnect. Being with Charlie was like always having a burst of energy and sunlight around us! I am sure he is watching us all now with that smile on his face..

You have my deepest and sincere sympathy on the passing of Charlie. Charlie and I were close friends during our days at University (FDU). We were part of a group of close close friends that lived together, laughed together and cried together. we shared everything life had to offer. Even though we drifted apart over the years they were some of the best years of my life and having Charlie part of them contributed to that. I am sure he was met at the Gate by friends who have passed before. I look forward to seeing him and them again someday. I leave you with this thought

O SON OF THE SUPREME!
I have made death a messenger of joy to thee.
Wherefore dost thou grieve?
I made the light to shed on thee its splendor.
Why dost thou veil thyself there from?

January 12, 2009

Carlos,
Thank you for being such a significant part of our lives. You were a friend, a brother, a father, a love. You were everything. Thank you for being there whenever we needed to talk or cry. Thank you for always turning our tears into laughter. Thank you for leaving the door open and for extending an unconditional welcome whenever we needed. You know, we didn't even have to knock.
Charlie, how did you do it? How did you manage to find the humor in everything? How did you manage to knock us all out with your jokes? How did you manage to cook gourmet meals in minutes? You were a one-of-a-kind bon vivant.
It will be hard without you around, but we will find strength knowing your spirit will live on through every single one of us you touched so deeply.
We love you so much and will continue to think about you every single second of our lives.
Big kiss on the lips to last eternity,
Emily & Boku
