Grace Macchio Obituary

GRACE M. MACCHIO, 70 of Stamford, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at her home. Born on January 12, 1941 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Rose Vavala Macchio. Grace was an employee of Walden Books for 22 years, retiring in 1994. She was also a volunteer at Stamford Hospital for 10 years. She is survived by her 3 sisters; Rose Sabia, Joanne Macchio and Catherine Macchio, and her 3 brothers; Sal Macchio, Joseph Macchio and his wife Debbie, and Robert Macchio, all of Stamford, as well as several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by 2 brothers; Nicholas and James Macchio, and a sister Marie Chandler and brother-in-law Anthony Sabia. Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Sunday, January 30, 2011 from 2:00- 4:00PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 10:10AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00AM at St. Cecilia's Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Norwalk, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Grace's name to Stamford Hospital, 30 Shelburne Road, Stamford, CT 06902 or St. Cecilia Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT 06905. Sal, Rose and all the Macchio family... My sincere condolences on the passing of your sister Gracie. A friend to me since I was a teenager in Springdale many, many years past.
