Grover Parker Obituary

GROVER C. (SKIP) PARKER, JR. -

son of the late Grover and Hazel Grant Parker, Sr., died on Saturday, October 1, 2005. Born in Stamford on November 15, 1933, he was 71 years old and was a self-employed truck driver. Mr. Parker was a Korean War Veteran and was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1963. He and his crew were responsible for surveying, and installing early warning radar through Canada, New Foundland and the Arctic Circle. He served tours with SAC, TAC and MATS. He was involved with the Berlin Air Lift and the Bay of Pigs. He was a commander of Stamford Post 3 American Legion for three years. For several years he was also a member of the Post 12 Honor Guard, Norwalk.

Mr. Parker was educated in Stamford Public Schools and his interests included flying, boating and restoring antique cars and trucks. He actively participated in many city and state patriotic events by marching, and by driving his own personal military vehicles.

Survivors include his son, Grover C. Parker, 3rd of Stamford; a brother, Donald Parker; nephews William H. Parker, Jr., Robert Parker and Johnny Rudisill; and nieces Ingabor, Renee and Hazel Rudisill.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Concilio Parker; a brother, William H. Parker, Sr., and a sister, Jean Rudisill. Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 from 3-7 p.m. Friends and family will meet directly on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Parker's name to St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford, CT 06906.
