James Colohan Obituary

JAMES J. COLOHAN

69, a life-long resident of Stamford passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Stamford Hospital.

Jim was born on March 3, 1937 in Norwalk, CT to the late Michael Christopher Colohan of Balensloe, Co. Galway, Ireland, and the late Teresa Oates Colohan of Frenchpark, Co. Rosecommon, Ireland.

In 1996, he retired from SNET after 35 years of employment.

Jim graduated from St. Basil's Prep in 1955 and subsequently, the University of Dayton. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Essex and was member of the VFW Post 9617.

As a dedicated volunteer in the Springdale Fire Company, he held numerous offices including Chief for many years. He was a past president of the Big-Five Volunteer Fire Companies.

He was an intense train collector and an avid sports fan; no one came near when the Giants were playing.

A typical Irishman, Jim could be counted on for giving an honest opinion, telling a good story and being thrifty.

Jim is survived by his wife of 39 years Mary (Betsy) Russell Colohan of Stamford, daughter Patricia Ann Colohan of Arlington, VA and son, Michael Thomas Colohan of Stamford, an Aunt, Josie McKeige and several cousins in Ireland.

A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory 104 Myrtle Ave Stamford, CT at 9:20 AM, Sat. Feb. 3, 2007 and proceed to the St. Cecilia's RC Church 1184 Newfield Ave. Stamford for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Internment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Darien, CT.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Friday Feb. 2, 2007 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Springdale Fire Co. 987 Hope St. Stamford, CT 06907 or St. Cecilia's RC Church 1184 Newfield Ave. Stamford, CT 06905. www.

Betsy - I was sorry to of Jim's passing. I grew up with him on Cushing St. and remember teaching him to dance for his Sr. Prom! I have wonderful memories of our fun together as we grew up. Baseball in the street, games with the Carroll family and helping each other out in our teen years. A good guy...diane

Dear Betsy, You may not remember me, but we grew up on Cushing St. with Jim. I am sorry we heard about Jim's death too late to get to the funeral. My brother Jack is in Tennessee, but Barbara and I would have been there. Our deepest sympathies. Judy Carroll

My thoughts and prayers for Jim and his family. While I was back in Stamford 2002 - 2003 to take care of my dad I met Jim at Springdale Fire Company and shared many memories of SNET days. God Rest Jim.
