James Winn Obituary
James W. Winn, 73, affectionately known as "Pat" transitioned peacefully on July 20, 2015. He was born in Stamford, Connecticut on October 24, 1941, son of the late James O. Winn and Elizabeth Whitlow Winn. James received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Iona College and served as Lieutenant in the Darien, CT. township until retirement. He was predeceased by his wife, Carseina Ham Winn. His social and civic affiliations were numerous and honorably remembered for his outstanding service. His life and legacy will be treasured by his son, retired Darien Police Sergeant Kane Winn and daughter in law, Susan, his daughter; Tracy Winn, grandson; Carsen; granddaughter Olivia, brother; Thomas Winn ( Yvonne) and longtime companion, Dolores Burgess and a of host nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. James was predeceased by his siblings, Barbara Winn Schmidt and Ralph "Butchie" Winn. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM followed by a service of celebration at 11:00 AM at Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT. with Rev. Dr. Robert W. Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the 100 Black Men of Stamford, CT., Mentoring Program, P.O. Box 1313, 06904. Services entrusted to Downer Funeral Home.

Please accept our condolences. We were saddened to hear of Pat's (Pap's) passing. We pray that God will wrap His arms of comfort around you.
We met Pat in 1959 at Virginia Union. We were team mates and became close friends. Our move to Stamford allowed us to spend time together, and deepen our friendship.
We are so grateful to God for allowing us to share a bond with Pat for over 55 years.

My deepest condolences to the family. I loved seeing Pat every year at the Old Timers' dinner in Stamford. His laughing face lit up the entire building! My enduring memory of Pat will forever be the "no-hitter" he pitched for our 1957 Babe Ruth League All-Star Team against Maine. Pat struck out 15 batters that day, and propelled us into the national tournament at the University of Michigan. Pat was an All-Star in every way!

Growing up in Stamford, the Winn, Treadway, Bannister(my mother's cousins), and Harvey families were great friends of my father and family members. Pat came to visit my mother a couple of years ago. She was so happy to see him. I am glad she had that time with him.
May God's embrace comfort all of the family during this sorrowful time.

Pat was a fellow member of Stamford High School class of '59. Because of his standout play on the football team, everyone knew him. Not just well known, he was well liked. Friendly, positive and unassuming. I talked with him at the class's 50th reunion and time hadn't changed him. My condolences to his family.
