Mark Lyons Obituary

Lyons, Mark R.
Mark Robert Lyons, 49, was born January 17, 1967, in Stamford, CT, and passed away July 23, 2016, in his hometown. The only child of Stanley "Kelly" Irish and Linda Lyons, Mark attended Newfield Elementary, Rippowam, and Wright Tech schools (all of which, interestingly, his daughter Shannon also attends.) Mark loved his Irish heritage and also had a lifelong fascination with the era of the Vikings. In fact, he collected Viking memorabilia and often felt as if he belonged in this other era of the "simpler life."
Mark's favorite hobbies were fishing and gardening (especially, planting peas) with Shannon. He and his beloved wife of 16 years, Nancy Ann Fago Lyons, had many wonderful times together, especially motorcycling to Kent Falls and along the back roads of Danbury and Milford, hiking with homemade walking sticks, and enjoying Mark's band rehearsals together.
Music was Mark's lifelong passion, especially rock 'n roll music from the late 70's to the early 90's and his favorite bands: "KISS," "Metallica" and "Iron Maiden." However, he also loved the "Beatles"! His favorite pasttime was playing bass in the band "OZONE" with good friends Brandon, Steve, and George.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mark is survived by two daughters and a stepson: Shannon Lyons of Stamford, Ashley (husband Daniel) Pina of East Haven, and Jonathan Kenneth of Bridgeport; two grandchildren: Juilette and Daniel Jr. Pina of East Haven; his half siblings: Amy (husband Mike) Irish of Stamford, Lori Irish of Stamford, and Ryan (wife Teresa) Irish of Texas; several aunts and an uncle, including: Diane Redfield of North Carolina, Annette Cocco of Stamford, Sam Van Houten of Stamford, and Virginia Reilly of North Carolina; a nephew: Liam Irish of Stamford; and numerous cousins.
Mark left life too soon, but will never be forgotten. His beloved family and friends will always remember him as "The Viking," and "Papa Bear" will live on forever in the heart of his beloved Shanny.
Memorial Service: Saturday, August 20, 2016, at 5:00p.m. at Stamford Baptist Church (602 High Ridge Road, Stamford, CT 06905) – please join the family immediately afterward for a Reception on the premises.
In lieu of flowers, assistance with the family's expenses would be greatly appreciated. (Checks payable/contributions mailed to "Nancy Lyons" c/o Stamford Baptist, at above address.)

Linda, my heart goes out to you and your family, to Marks wife and children. Mark was a good friend to so many, always willing to help a person in need. I knew him during much happier days. I was with him when he first put the bass in his hands, and his eyes lit up. His love of music, his adventurous spirit, his old viking soul - who just wanted to live in a time long ago. That is what I will always remember of Mark. Oh how he loved his mom, rightfully so. Linda, you have a wonderful heart and raised a good man.
I'd like to say rest easy my friend. But chances are, "the blues a running" and he's going fishing. Or maybe he's off cruising on a motorcycle up route 7.

A while back, on and off, I had thoughts of Mark. For many years of not hanging out with him, made me miss him. I need to mention that Mark was funny, a go-getter and generous. Today was the news that I received of Mark. I will always miss that guy.

This was a shock! I'm sorry to all of Mark's family for what you're going through. I saw Mark about a couple of months ago. I knew he had been through a lot of medical stuff but I didn't expect him to be gone so soon, too soon. Mark was always a rocker who enjoyed his music. I'd have to say one of his favorite female guitar player was Lita Ford. Rest in peace and may God watch over all your loved ones. This is a reminder that life is too short and we should all live everyday as if it were our last and make the most of it in a positive way as best we can.
