Michael Francis Tierney, Jr. departed this world on May 30th, 2024, from the VA Medical Center in West Haven, CT, surrounded by his loving family.
Michael is predeceased by his wife, Deborah McIntyre Tierney, and his father Michael Francis Tierney. He is survived by his mother, Jean Weitner Tierney; brother, John Tierney and his wife Wendy; sisters Mary, Sharon, Sheila and Carolyn Tierney and Kerry Bender; nieces and nephews, Maura Hamel and her wife Anna, Kelly, Andrew and Mollie Hamel; Sean Hayden and his wife Sydney, Brendan and Rose Hayden; Ian, McKeighry, Austin and Kienan Tierney; Kathleen Schatzman; Jack and Chelsea Bender; and his grandnephew Michael Tierney Hayden.
Michael was born in Stamford, CT, and raised in Wallingford, CT, where he attended Holy Trinity School and Mark T. Sheehan High School. After earning a B.A. in French from the University of Connecticut, he enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1983. He studied Russian at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, and then completed Interrogator specialty training at the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School at Fort Huachuca, AZ. He was then assigned to the 18th Military Intelligence Battalion in Munich, Germany, where SGT Tierney served as a Strategic Debriefer until he was honorably discharged in 1987. Michael subsequently worked as an Intelligence Operations Specialist for the Department of Defense until his retirement in 2014.
