Monsignor Nicholas V. Grieco
April 7, 1933 – November 27, 2021
Monsignor Nicholas V. Grieco, a longtime priest of the Diocese of Bridgeport and Stamford resident, entered into eternity on Saturday, November 27, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, New York on April 7, 1933, he is survived by his sister, Isabelle Grieco also of Brooklyn and several cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Nicola and Maria Domenica (Rinaldi) Grieco, his brother Joseph and his sister Stella.
Monsignor Grieco attended LaSalle Academy in Manhattan and Our Lady of Mercy Preparatory Seminary in Lenox, MA. He held a BA in Philosophy from Catholic University of America in Washington, DC; a STD degree in Theology from the Angelicum Pontifical University in Rome; and a Masters degree in Corporate and Political Communications from Fairfield University as well as other post-graduate pastoral studies.
Since his ordination on June 6, 1959 at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Monsignor Grieco led a highly productive and varied life in service to his diocese. He had been a missionary, parish curate, elementary school principal, director of religious education, spiritual director, director of communications, media expert, pastor, and founder/editor of Fairfield County Catholic - Bridgeport's diocesan newspaper. He also served as Associate pastor at Saint Edward the Confessor Parish (New Fairfield), Sacred Heart Parish (Stamford), and Saint Maurice Parish (Stamford). From 1992 - 2009, Monsignor Grieco was Pastor of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish (Weston) where, among other innovations, he founded a Montessori preschool and shepherded the expansion and construction of the new parish hall.
Serving five consecutive bishops, Monsignor Grieco had been an active member of the Diocesan Liturgical and Ecumenical Commissions, Secretary to the Bishop for Evangelization, territorial Vicar for Vicariate II and member of the Diocesan Board of Consultors. Since his retirement, Monsignor lived at the Queen of the Clergy Residence in Stamford, still celebrating daily liturgies and directing retreats at several local parishes.
The family of Monsignor Grieco wishes to thank all the family and friends who played a vital part in his life and who walked with him on his journey of faith. They also thank Dr. Michael Fusco, Dr. Thomas Nero and especially Ms. Angela Martin and his other care-givers for their loving attention and support.

We have so many memories of Monsignor as we were members of Saint Francis of Assisi parish from 1993-2013. His care and loving kindness as he shepherded our parish was remarkable and we will always remember his smile and simple way to connect his homilies to real life actions.
We will miss him greatly. Sending condolences to family.

I will cherish the memories of our Wednesday evening dinners and conversations forever.
I met monsignor about 5 years ago after a memorial mass that he celebrated in memory of my wife. We learned that we were both from the same area of Brooklyn.

I was a member of St. Francis of Assisi until 2009 when I moved out of state. I will never forget Msgr. Grieco's kindness. He loved his congregation and the feeling was mutual. He will be missed.

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Monsignor Grieco on his passing.
As a child, I remember Monsignor as being a kind and compassionate priest at Sacred Heart Parish. He was welcoming and personable; a gentle man with a warm smile and genuine care for all. I so enjoyed running into him these past few years and chatting. May he rest in eternal peace.

We so enjoyed his homilies when he was at St. Cecilia Church - it was like relearning our catechism when he spoke. That bounding and reassuring voice and smile will always remind us of his never ending dedication to his priesthood. Sincere sympathy to his survivors. May he rest in peace.
