With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert L. Chartier, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, loyal friend, graduate of Villanova University, and tireless advocate for working people. Robert passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with his family by his side. He left behind a powerful legacy defined by leadership, love, and an unwavering commitment to justice and family.
As President of Local 32E SEIU, Robert spent decades championing the rights of working men and women. He fought for fair wages, safe conditions, and respect in the workplace because he believed deeply in the dignity of labor and the power of unity. Under his leadership, countless lives were improved, and the labor movement was made stronger, fairer, and more humane.
Robert's legacy, however, reached far beyond his work. He was a man of principle and deep love, especially for his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Chartier, his steadfast partner and source of strength. He was the proud and devoted father of three sons: Robert (Kristin), Brian (Aimee), and Jeffrey (Devon); and the loving grandfather to five cherished grandchildren: Robert, Peter, Christopher, Caitlin, and Madison, each of whom brought immense pride and joy into his life.
Outside of his professional and family life, Robert was an avid sportsman. He cherished every opportunity to be outdoors, hunting, fishing, and boating, especially when those moments were shared with family. Nature was his sanctuary, and those memories remain vivid for all who joined him on the water or in the woods.
Robert will be remembered as a man who led with courage, lived with purpose, and loved without limit. His life was a gift to his family, his union brothers and sisters, and his community. His strength, humility, and unwavering sense of right and wrong leave behind an enduring legacy.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Gabe and the staff at Evergreen Daytime Senior Care for their compassion, care, and friendship during Robert's time there. Your support brought comfort and dignity when it was needed most. Deep appreciation is also extended to the dedicated team at The Bridges by Epoch, whose kindness and professionalism helped carry Robert and his family through his final days with grace.
The family will host a visitation on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 9:00 am-10:30 am at Thomas Gallagher Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11 am at St. Cecilia Church, 1184 Newfield Ave., Stamford CT.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Robert's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an organization close to his heart and aligned with his lifelong commitment to caring for others.
