To the Family of Vinny Sharkey, Sr., I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Vinny and I go back to the east side as kids. We competed agianst each other in Basketball, and softball. And we worked together on the PD. Vinny, could always get the the job done, no matter what it was. We have lost a good one, rest in peace brother.

to the Sharkey family: Just got going with my computer again and was so sorry to read of Vincent's passing. While serving as Stamford's Recreation Superintendent, I took note of Vincent's leadership in helping Stamford to develop well-balanced outstanding youth programs. He and others, especially in the Basketball for Youth and Little League Baseball programs always saw to it that all boys were given an opportunity to play, and feel that they were a part of the team. Thousands over the years benefitted from his love for family, friends and community. May God grant him and his family special blessings. Bruno Giordano

We know words do not really help at this time but Vinny was a caring and compassion man who loved working with the city's youth. Vinny was a example for all of us and was truly admired by everyone who worked with him. Vinny will be missed for a very long time.

We were truly saddened by the passing of Vinny. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing him was extremely fortunate. He was a role model for all of us to live our lives by. To the Sharkey Family: Vinney worked with my son George in the field of sports with the youth of Stamford. I remember him mostly in Basketball. They both worked together to set many a young person on the right path for a good life. I worked with his mother Margaret in the Stamford Hospital. He was a good man. I have a picture of Mr. Sharkey in my mind. He is smiling and loving every moment with his family. I did not get to spend a lot of time with Mr Sharkey but each and everytime I saw him he embraced me like he knew me my whole life. I'm so sorry for your loss. To lose both of your Dads in a years time is heart breaking. I love you both Nic and Vin. With I could be there to hug you both.

I knew Vinnie when we were teamates on the K of C in the Federal LL. Although he was tweleve and I ten, I recall how he treated the younger kids with encouragement and respect, which was a bit of a rarity back then. He was a great 'kid', who, based on the comments here, evidently became a great adult. My condolences to his family.

Vinny was what any man would hope to be, a great friend,who brought laughter into almost any situation, a corageous and compasionate police officer,and dedicated family man. He made what was sometimes the deppresing job of police work seem like fun anytime you were near him. Few people in this life will ever match up with Vinny's great qualities.
