William Matthew Sharp
June 9th, 1943 - January 1st, 2021William Matthew Sharp, 77 of Stamford, CT passed away. William was born in New York, NY, the eldest son of Robert and Florence Sharp. He grew up in both New York and Houston, Texas. William, or "Bill" as he was known to his friends and family, spent his childhood summers at a family cottage on Island Lake in Starrucca, Pennsylvania, a place he would grow to love for the rest of his life. He was a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, and attended college at the Pratt Institute in New York, NY graduating with a degree in Architecture. While studying at Pratt, Bill met Jacqueline Catena, and they were married on September 3rd, 1967. He was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study architecture in Turkey, where the young newlyweds spent their first year married together traveling abroad. His first job was as an assistant architect where he worked as a draftsman on the World Trade Center buildings. Bill went on to have a successful career as a freelance architect in Connecticut for more than 40 years, having designed many homes and businesses all around the tristate area. His work has been recognized in Architectural Digest and other publications.
Bill is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Jacque, their children, Christopher and Tamara Sharp, his daughter-in-law Andrea, two grandchildren Joshua and Caitlin Sharp, and two younger brothers, Sandor and Arthur Sharp.
William will be greatly missed and remembered for his extraordinary kindness, great love of family and friends and the Beach Boy's music. His ashes will be scattered over Island Lake, his favorite place in the world.
