Alvin Stewart Obituary

Alvin F. Stewart, 93, of McAdoo, passed away Wednesday at his home.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Alvin and Margaret (Stiles) Steward.

He was a member of United Church of Christ, McAdoo, and Free and Accepted Masons Hazle Azalea Fellowship Lodge 327.

Al was an honorably discharged Army veteran serving with the 101st Airborne with the rank of Staff Seargent.

Before retiring he was a welding foreman for the former Barrett Haentjens, Hazleton.

Al enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, working in his home workshop, painting pictures, and making things for his church.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his son, Alvin; and brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his wife of 74 years, the former Jeannette J. Lentz; sons, Jefferson and David and his wife Candy; daughter, Jean Knepper and her husband, Carl; sisters, Ruth Ann Spencer and her husband, Elwood; and Jean Hopeck; grandchildren, Ryan and Bradley Lentz; and Melody Evancho; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Alyssa Evancho; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from McNulty Funeral Home, 494 East Butler Drive, Freeland. The Rev. Glen Limbauch will officiate.

Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Weatherly.

Hello. I was very sad to see Alvin's obituary today. I worked with Al at Barrett Haentjens, Hazleton for several years before the lay offs started there. He was the best weld shop foreman you every wanted to work for. My condolences go out to his family.
