Our beloved aunt, Amelia Grace DeMarco, a resident of The Patrician, passed away Wednesday in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton, due to complications from COVID-19. She will be remembered for her spirited and strong-willed personality by all who knew her.
Born on Nov. 17, 1922, she was a lifelong resident of Hazleton. She was the daughter of the late Ralph Sr. and Susan (Fetter) DeMarco. Amelia attended Hazleton High School and worked for Foldes Footwear before stepping down to take care of her parents.
She was a life member of Most Precious Blood Church. Amelia loved her parish and attended Mass daily throughout her life. She was given the gift of a beautiful voice which she shared in singing and honoring the Lord. She generously volunteered at Most Precious Blood throughout her life. She was a member of the Most Precious Blood Sodality. Working at the fried dough stand every year during the Madonna del Monte feast was a favorite memory of hers.
Spending time with her family was the absolute most important thing for Amelia. She loved people and loved talking. Memories of happy holidays with her sister and brothers and celebrating the birth of each new member of the family throughout her life gave her the most joy. She had a generous heart and presented each member of the family with gifts of love and prayer.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her sister, Candida "Candy" (DeMarco) McCoy; and brothers, Carlo DeMarco and Ralph DeMarco.
The family wishes to thank Pat and Kristin at The Patrician for their making her feel like it was her home and to the staff and residents for being part of her extended family.
Amelia is the last surviving member of the immediate family.
She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews, Ralph DeMarco, Judy (DeMarco) Dennis, Tom DeMarco, Joseph DeMarco, Carol (DeMarco) Harry, Sandy (McCoy) Martin, Suzie DeMarco, Barbara (McCoy) Kaschak, David McCoy and Robert DeMarco; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. She will always hold a special place in their hearts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Most Precious Blood Church. Interment will follow in Most Precious Blood cemetery.
