Andrew Grega Obituary

Andrew J. Grega, 82, of Hazle Twp., passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Hazleton on April 26, 1942, he was the son of the late Andrew S. and Veronica Hollick Grega and was a member of the Holy Rosary Church, Hazleton.

Andrew was a 1959 graduate of Hazle Twp. High School and went on to serve in the 1st Calvary of the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1966 with a rank of S/P 4th Class.

He started employment with Pollack Paper of Hazleton and remained with the company for 38 years and several ownership changes. He ultimately retired in 2004 as a supervisor from what is now known as Bemis of Hazleton.

He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed biking, swimming, cross-country skiing and going to the gym where he met many loving friends. He was a car fanatic and huge NASCAR fan, enjoyed music and concerts at the Mauch Chunk Opera House and spending time outdoors tending to his yard. But most important to Andrew was the time he spent with his family traveling to many places; especially the Knoebels Amusement Park and to his favorite beach Cape May, N.J.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his sister, Barbara Mazurick; and sister-in-law, Joan Grega.

Surviving are his wife of what would be 55 years in August, the former Donna Faust; daughter Alexandra E. Fedorko and her husband, Thomas, Drums; son, Ryan A. Grega, Nesquehoning; grandchildren, Gavin M. Grega, Alexander T. Fedorko, Zackariah A. Fedorko, and Benjamin P. Fedorko; and special granddogs Kozmo and Floyd; sisters, Jane Seamon and her husband, Donald, Jeddo; and Mary Anne Lynn and her late husband, Ronald, Hazleton; brothers, Gerald A. Grega, Hazle Twp.; John Grega and his wife, Christine, Freeland; and Thomas Grega and his wife, Nancy, Hazle Twp.; brothers-in-law, Michael Mazurick, Beaver Meadows; and Earl Faust and his wife Kim, Hazleton; sisters-in-law Janet Guydish and her late husband, Ronald, Hazle Twp.; and Deborah Yakuboski and her husband, Eli, Hazleton; along with several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation period from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Krapf & Hughes Funeral Home – Crematory, 530 W. Butler Drive, Drums.

Friends and family are also invited to gather at the Holy Rosary Church, 240 South Poplar Street, Hazleton at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for a memorial service. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the many doctors and nurses who took good care of Andrew during his battle with pancreatic cancer.
