Anthony F. Liene Sr., 90, of Hazle Twp., died Thursday in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
Born in Hazleton, March 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Anthony F. and Mary (Pecora) Laino.
Tony was a 1951 graduate of Hazleton High School and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy aboard the USS Daly. He served during the Korean War and was extremely proud of the fact that he completed an around the world cruise before he was 20 years old. He was later employed with Mack Truck of Allentown; eventually retiring from their Macungie facility.
He was a lifetime member of the Swing Club, a member of the Quarterback Club and served on several of his class reunion committees. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and music, but above all, he was devoted to and absolutely loved being with his children and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his stepfather, Edmund Martisevich; an infant daughter, Debbie; sister, Marie Staber; grandson, Paul James "PJ" Lieb III; son-in-law, Paul James Lieb II; and daughter-in-law, Gloria Lockwood Liene.
Surviving is his wife of 64 years, the former Rita A. Kassick; daughter, Mary Ellen (Jarrett) Lieb, Hazle Twp.; son, Anthony Liene Jr., West Hazleton; daughter, Sandra Theodore, Palmyra; grandchildren, Christopher Lieb and his wife, Tory, Tristi Lenz and her husband, Eric; Anthony Liene III; Sydney Theodore; Mason Theodore; and Julie Novy; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Krapf & Hughes Funeral Home and Crematory, 530 West Butler Drive, Drums.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation period that will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and continuing until the time of service.
