Anthony N. Tier, 68, of Conyngham, passed away Monday morning at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Hazleton, Sept. 19, 1956, he was the son of Theresa (Deeb) Tier, of Drums, and the late Nicholas Tier, and has spent the past 46 years in Conyngham after moving from West Hazleton.
Anthony graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Bloomsburg State University after attending Penn State. He worked as a procurement specialist for PP&L, and was a registered tax preparer at his home in Conyngham. He was a member of St, John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, Sugarloaf Twp., where he taught faith formation and lectored for many years, a past president and board member of the CVCO, past president of Conyngham Lions Club, a member of the Knight of Columbus and was a founding member of the Wednesday Night Social Club. He also coached little league, soccer, basketball, and refereed basketball at CVCO. He was an avid Penn State fan.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of the past 46 years, Linda (Schleppy) Tier, to whom he was married on Sept. 9, 1978; two sons, Nicholas Tier and his wife, Kerry, Collegeville; Matthew Tier and his wife, Diana, Pottstown; two brothers, Michael Tier and wife, Sharon, Conshohocken; Robert Tier and wife, Jill, St. Augustine, Fla.; two granddaughters, Paige and Tessa Tier; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held with a memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday in St John Bosco R.C. Church, Sugarloaf Twp. Internment will follow in Conyngham Union Cemetery, Conyngham. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass Friday in the church.
