Arlene Marie Karabetsos, 77, of Hazleton passed away Nov. 9 at her home after a brief battle with cancer surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Baltimore, Md., she was daughter of the late William and Irene (Petrosky) Forte.
Arlene graduated from Hazleton Area High School, then attended Miami University with a focus in Liberal Arts. Her career as a real estate agent spanned more than 20 years, most recently an agent for Pecora Real Estate P.C.
Arlene had a vivacious personality, always making those around her laugh. She was an inspiration to all and an advocate for others to follow their dreams, often giving words of advice and encouragement. She often shared her stories of the years she spent traveling through Spain and Italy after college. Most recently, returning to Spain to continue to her adventures. She enjoyed swimming and had a passion for reading. She was a lifetime member of the Hazleton YMCA and Public Library.
Arlene loved spending summers with her siblings, nieces and nephews at our Lake Hauto cottage. She would often visit her son and granddaughter in the vibrant city of Manhattan. She cherished spending summers along the northeastern beaches with her daughter.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Theodore Karabetsos; and brother-in-law, David Price.
Surviving are her daughter, Laura Karabetsos-Polchin and her husband, Chas, Hazle Twp; son, Theodore Karabetsos Jr. and his wife, Hua Chai, Queens, N.Y.; beloved granddaughter, Mia; sisters, Jean Price, Sugarloaf Twp.; and Linda Forte and her husband, Chris Babb, Lancaster; brother, William Forte, Belmar, N.J.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A public memorial service will be held Saturday at from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Historic Brainerd Church, 780 N. Main St., Sugarloaf Twp., with her prayer service being held at noon. Due to COVID-19 precautions, masks will be required and provided upon arrival.
