Diane K. Karmonick

Diane K. Karmonick, 84, of Drums died Thursday evening in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.

Born in Minneapolis, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur P. Kelley and Frances Teresa Lang Kelley Abbas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Mell Abbas; and her son, Christopher F., in 1988.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, she was honorably discharged with the rank of private first class in 1956.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Weston, and a founding member of the Compassionate Friends of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, Sugarloaf Twp.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Francis J. "Cookie" Karmonick, of Drums, to whom she had been married for the past 65 years; her sons, Richard D. Karmonick and his wife, Maureen, of Drums; Mark A. Karmonick and his wife, Kim, of Sugarloaf Twp.; her daughter, Annette Sedon and husband, George, of Hazle Twp.; her brother, Ken Abbas, of West Hazleton; and her granddaughters, whom she adored, Jessica Sedon Cimakasky; and Kaitlin and Kristen Karmonick.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, Sugarloaf Twp. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Weston. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Pusti Funeral Home Inc., 480 W. Broad St., Hazleton.
