Eleanor S. Balas, 93, of McAdoo, passed away Sunday evening at her home.
Born in McAdoo, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Bruley) Schott.
Eleanor was a dedicated parishioner of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, McAdoo. She was a longtime member of the Sodality and Rosary Society, and pirohi maker for the parish.
Eleanor enjoyed polka dancing and listening to polka music. Her true passion was caring for her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Joseph Balas Sr.; sisters, Veronica Schott and Mary Rajnic; and brothers, John and Emil Schott.
Surviving are her children, Joseph Balas Jr. and wife, Mary Jane, St. Clair; Lorraine Caperton, McAdoo; Melanie Cisco, Florida; Mary Ellen Anderson and husband, Michael, McAdoo; Emily Balas, McAdoo; Michael Balas and wife, Maureen, Drums; and Cynthia Greco and husband, Frank, Hazle Twp; grandchildren, Bruce, Brett, Bonnie, Kyle, Andy, Renee, Tanya, Michael, Todd and Justin; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Hladish, Woodlyn; and nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held beginning at 9:30 a.m. Friday from Damiano Funeral Home Inc., McAdoo. The Rev. Gregory Hosler will celebrate the Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, McAdoo.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
