Martha E. Sauer, 82, of 522 N. Church St., Hazleton, passed away Tuesday surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Schuylkill Haven, the daughter of the late Arthur and Deborah Long Glance.
Martha was a graduate of Hazleton High School, Class of 1958.
She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, 21 Faith Drive, Hazle Twp.
Martha started off her life after graduation as a stewardess for two years, employed by Eastern Airlines, where she resided in New York City at the time. After raising her family, she worked as a seamstress for Deisroth's Department Store, Hazleton, and as a teller at Security Savings, Hazleton. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary at Craig Motors, Hazleton. Martha continued as Hazleton's most revered seamstress right up until the time of her illness.
She loved traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed her morning mall walks with her good friends, Molly and Julie.
Martha married her childhood sweetheart, Frederic G. Sauer, and was married for more than 51 years prior to his death in 2014.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and her husband, Frederic, by two sisters, Edna Glance Cantner and Joanna Glance Hinkle.
Surviving are her beloved children, Pamela Himes and her husband, Scott, York; Christopher Sauer and his wife, Francine, West Hazleton; and Arthur Sauer and his partner, Victoria Valerian, Freeland; five grandchildren, Christopher Sauer Jr.; Matthew Himes and his wife, Alicia; Lauren Barnett and her husband, Tyler; Alexander Sauer and his wife, Sarah; and Isabella Sauer. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral memorial service to be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at Faith United Church of Christ, 21 Faith Drive, Hazle Twp., with interment to be held privately in Union Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service Nov. 19 at the church.
