Robert Lawrence Hanlon, 88, of Orwigsburg and formerly of Tamaqua, died Wednesday in Orwigsburg.
Born on Oct. 26, 1933, in Tamaqua, he was a son of the late Thomas and Marguerite (Kelly) Hanlon. A 1952 graduate of the former St. Jerome High School, Tamaqua, Robert was an airman first class serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He was a member of Tamaqua American Legion C.H. Berry Post No. 173 and the Lansford AMVETS.
Retiring in 1987, Robert had been employed by the former Bethlehem Steel for 35 years.
Currently a member of St. John XXIII Parish, Tamaqua, he had been a member of the former St. Jerome Catholic Church.
Robert spent free hours golfing, fishing in Canada and following both the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. Affectionately known as "UB" by his nephews and nieces, he was everyone's favorite uncle.
Robert is survived by sisters, Catherine Jeronis, Easton; and Emerita Depos, Owl Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Thomas Hanlon, Leonard Hanlon and Andrew Hanlon; and sisters, Marian Krapf, Bernadette Swetz, Alice Jeronis and Marguerite Rascavage.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 307 Pine St., Tamaqua.
Interment in St. Jerome Cemetery, Lombard Street, Tamaqua, will follow the Mass.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.
Memorials in Robert's name may be made to St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 307 Pine St., Tamaqua, PA 18252.
