Arnold Westervelt Obituary

Arnold L. Elmira Fire Department Retiree Age 79 of Elmira, NY passed away on Monday, November 4, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born April 4, 1923 in Elmira the son of the late Lloyd and Alma (Meyers) Westervelt. Arnold is survived by his wife Rita Harter, whom he married on April 6, 1942. They have enjoyed 60 wonderful years of life and love together. He is also survived by his beloved children, Judy Symonds of Elmira, NY, Bonnie (Cam) MacDonell also of Elmira, NY: Arnie Westervelt of Waverly, NY; Cheryl Westervelt of Elmira, NY; brother, Lloyd (Doris) Westervelt of Texas; grandchildren, Michael (Deanna) Boughton, Mark (Dawn) Boughton and Vickie (Dan) Chapman; Cameron MacDonell; Arnie Jr.; Riley and Cody Coleman; along with 5 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, John Symonds, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Arnold was a Veteran of the US Marine Corps and proudly served his country from 1942-1945 during WW II as a Sergeant. In 1984, he retired from the Elmira Fire Department with over 30 years of faithful and dedicated service as a fireman. Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira NY on Thursday, November 7, 2002 from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 PM. Funeral Services will be held there at the conclusion of calling hours. (7 PM) Deacon Bob Stowell will officiate. Interment will take place Friday at 10:00 AM in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery where the Chemung Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Westervelt full Military Honors. Those wishing may direct memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association P.O. Box #31160 Hartford, CT 06150. A Candle of Memory may be lit in Arnold's name at www.olthof.com.
