Arthur Root Obituary
Arthur J. Root, 90, of Elmira, N.Y. passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at St. Joseph's Skilled Nursing Facility. He was predeceased by his parents, Rollin and Mildred Root; loving wife of 59 years, Rose Marie Root; and brother, Richard C. Root.
Arthur is survived by his children, Patrice (Michael Sedoma) Shaw and Constance Foster; granddaughter, Robyn Foster; and loving companion, Anna Migliore; sisters-in-law, Jean Root and Carol Mechalke; cousin, Willis Ford, Jr.; special niece, Diane Root and several other nieces.
Art was a long-time member of the Southport Kiwanis Club where he served as treasurer and also received the Kiwanian of the year award in 1992. Art was owner-operator of the Diamond Cleaners in Elmira for over 25 years. During his life, Art enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, boating and his residence at Keuka Lake. In his later years after retirement he enjoyed golfing with his friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Woodbrook Assisted Living Residence, Inc. 1250 Maple Ave, Elmira, NY 14904.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. with a funeral service to immediately follow at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira. Burial will be in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11 A.M. Art's tribute wall may be signed at www.olthof.com.

Connie, it saddens me to hear about your dad. It is one of the circumstances we face as we age. I lost my mom this past April and am blessed to still have my dad. I can remember stopping in to see him with you when we were in gymnastics in Jr. high. He always greeted us with a smile and was genuinely glad when you stopped. Take care, you're in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Root was my first boss at Diamond cleaners he spoke very highly of his family and made the work place feel like a family unit as well. He was a very kind and compassionate man in a quiet way. May he RIP .
