REIDY, Bernard T., Jr.
"Bud"
Age 88, of Horseheads, NY, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Bethany Manor. He was born on June 4, 1920 in Elmira, NY to the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Denney) Reidy, Sr. Bud was predeceased by his wife, Betty Reidy in 2005. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Rosemarie Reidy of Fairport, NY; granddaughter, Carla Reidy of Fairport, NY; sister, Margaret (Peg) Forrest of Nahant, MA; nephew, Hugh Forrest and niece, Debra Forrest, both of Nahant, MA. Bud was a decorated WWII Hero receiving the Bronze Star, Europe-Africa-Middle East Medal with Bronze Arrowhead (first wave assault, Omaha Beach, D-Day), Gold Battle Star for campaigns in Normandy, Central Europe, Ardennes, Northern France and Rhineland. He was also awarded the Belgian Fourrageres for bravery in the Battle of the Bulge. His battalion, the 299th Combat Engineers, was honored by being awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for Distinguished Service, and he rose to the rank of First Sergeant during WWII. After the war, Bud worked as an engineer for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post #154 in Elmira Heights. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 7th from 12 to 2 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will take place there at 2 p.m. with Father Walter Wainwright officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn National Cemetery with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
