Frances Simons Obituary
Age 84 of Horseheads, NY. She was born December 24, 1926 in Elmira, daughter of the late Charles F. and Bernice (Gardner) Wead and passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband William J. Simons in 1994, daughter Eileen Christian in 2009, sons-in-law Howard Miller in 2005 and Ronald Shearer in 2010, sisters Anna Mae Mothershed in 2005 and Geraldine Wead in 2009. She is survived by her children Frances Shearer of Horseheads, Gertrude Miller of Breesport, Nancy Simons and Sharon Simons both of Horseheads, Lou Anne (Ed) Morseman of Beaver Dams, William (Melinda) Simons of Horseheads, Janet Simons of Elmira, Sandy (Bill) Smith of Elmira Heights; grandchildren Gary and Chris Shearer, Jeremy and Robert Christian, Gayla Cornish, David and Diane Vavrasek, Scott and Steve Morseman, Jennifer and Billy Simons, Brandon and Emily Smith; several great grandchildren including Adam and Allison Shearer; brothers Norman (Bonnie) Wead of Beaver Dams, Harold Wead of Horseheads; sisters Lucille (Frederick) Arndt of Elmira, Mary Wead and Ellen Kruger both of NC along with several nieces, nephews and friends including Louise Palmer and family and Deb Woodcook and family. Mrs. Simons was retired from the Corning-Painted Post School District in the Head Start Program. She was a member of the Chemung County Old Timers Assoc. and enjoyed baking, listening to country music and spending time with her grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Friday, April 1st from 1 to 3 and 6 to 7:30 pm. Her funeral and committal services will be held there at 7:30 pm. Interment will take place in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Frances through donations to MDA, 601 Gates Rd., Vestal, NY 13850 or the Children's Miracle Network, 600 Roe Ave., Elmira, NY 14901
