Gordon Brink Obituary
Gordon Rodney Age 69, of Elmira Heights, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at home after a courageous ten year battle with cancer. He was born on June 26, 1933 in Elmira, the son of the late Jay B. and Mary Ellis Brink. He married Shirley Pierce on August 20, 1955 at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Elmira. August 20, 2002 would have been their 47th anniversary. He was the mayor of Elmira Heights for 13 years, attended the State School for the Blind in Batavia, was a member of the Elmira Heights Fire Department, Charter member of Scamper Camper Club, an Elmira Heights Trustee for 5 years and member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church. He was employed by Sears Roebuck as a delivery man for over 30 years, worked at Ward LaFrance, worked for Don Narde and retired from the Elmira Correctional Facility following 10 years of service. Gordon is survived by his wife; Shirley, daughters; Kim (Timothy) Mott of Rowlett, Texas, Eleanor Micki Stanley of Polson, Montana, Penny Brink of Columbus, Ohio, Donna Arduini of Elmira Heights, and Belinda Harrington of Las Vegas, Nevada, grandchildren; Jonathan and Jason Mott of Texas, Nicole Stanley of Montana, Elaine and Ryan Brink of Columbus, Ohio, Martha Schiender of Columbus, Ohio, Kara Arduini of Elmira Heights, and Samantha Harrington of Las Vegas, Nevada, brothers-in-law; Michael Washington of Olean, New York, Joseph Pelot of Big Flats, and Edwin Pierce of Florida, sisters-in-law: Jean Ann Brink of Elmira, Eleanor (Louis) Kimber of Elmira, and Inez Brink of Oklahoma, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter: Karen Lynn Brink in 1956, brothers; Carleton Jay Brink and Gerald Brink, and sisters: Beatrice Pelot, Frances Jean Washington, and Alice Seymour. Family and friends are invited to call at the Elmira Heights Village Hall, 215 Elmwood Ave., on Saturday, July 27, 2002 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00pm at the Oakwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patrick Holder officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery.
