Jay Haldeman Obituary

HALDEMAN, Jay E.
Age 76, of Abbott Township, PA, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2007, in the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. Born April 15, 1931 in Manheim, PA, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Beatrice (Wenger) Haldeman. On October 21, 1950 in Elizabethtown, PA, he married the former Pauline Lancaster. Jay retired as a Master Sergeant of the United States Army with 27 years of service. He was a member of the Masons, Galeton Lodge No. 602, and of the VFW Post 5956. He was a life member of the NRA and the first life member of the Manheim Sportsmen Club. He was a PA State Constable in Galeton, PA, the director for Tri-County Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc., for 13 terms, the chairman of the Wellsboro Electric Board, a past President of the Manheim Sportsmen Association, and the Mayor of Manheim Borough, Lancaster County from 1970 to 1974. He worked as a master plumber and was the past President/Owner of Frank L. Haldeman and Sons, Inc. Jay enjoyed hunting, gardening, building model airplanes and being an airplane pilot. Surviving are his wife, Pauline Haldeman, Abbott Township, PA; two daughters, Pamela (Chuck) Rineer, Manheim, PA, and Tina (Rob) Schmucker, Lancaster, PA; two sisters, Fern (J. Stanley) Heisey, Manheim, PA, and Eileen (Harry) Miller, Rhode Island; two brothers, Lloyd (Susan) Haldeman, Manheim, PA, and Edgar (Dorothy) Haldeman, Manheim, PA; four grandchildren, Jason, Andy, Justin and Anitra; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 1, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. at the Swedan Valley Faith Community United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Shatto officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton, PA.
